Proiect Pentru comunitate

Proiect pentru Educatie in domeniul Digital

Acest proiect are ca scop creerea unui program pentru educatie in domeniul digital.

Creative media skills: a Digital Education program

Background

Romania is a leader in Internet connection speed, its network of Optic Fiber having been rolled out to the farthest corners of the country. You will come across remote villages  where the internet speed is comparable to that of cosmopolitan cities of Europe.

The country also has a high volume of IT engineers and developers, not because it has excellent IT curriculums in schools and universities, quite the contrary, but because people have helped each other learn these skills and tech start-ups have created informal apprenticeships promoted via community networks.

I decided to capitalise on the Internet capabilities in the country to build capacity and help locals from disadvantaged areas, particularly the young, see alternative futures, by emerging them into the digital realm, complementing the IT sectors with more creative skills in the digital field.

As remote roles are becoming more and more the norm, creating these capabilities may also lead to a reduction in migration in the country (currently due to the lack of economic opportunities), which has had an high impact on the country.

The programme to build local capacity will be materialised via community learning programmes where creative digital skills will be taught both to adults and children.

Programmes

I decided to start with two pilot programmes in 2 villages, one in the south east of the country, in remotes communities in the Danube Delta (a place I did some ethnographic research). Here migration of young people is very high and schools are in danger of being closed down.

The second programme will be rolled out in my grandparents’ village (near Transylvania) where I have some connections and I believe I can get some support from local stakeholders.

The curriculum will be created by myself based on my experience of having been involved in similar courses. I will also work in consultation with local stakeholders and other researchers and digital specialists.
